Getting rid of a HUGE wasps nest

Hello I am having a small amount of building works done at my house and these have uncovered a hige wasps nest up in the loft.

My builder said that he thinks it has been sprayed and we certainly have not seen a large number or wasps about or heard any.

However who can I contact to get rid of the darned thing? The council said that they would charge £47 to come and have a look but they do not think that they would remove the actual nest. Can anyone help with any suggestions as I dont really fancy doing it myself as I have a bit of a wasp phobia   :o

Look in your local Thompson and call an exterminator out. We had a huge wasps nest, called a local person and she only charged us £25.00 to remove it, and it was on a Sunday morning too. Much better than the council :)

I worked for pest control for some time so can ofer the following advice. Councils do call out for a charge to destroy the wasps but they do not remove the nest. reason-once its been sprayed it takes a few days (can be a week) for all the wasps to be destroyed. The nest will never ever be used again and given time it will self degenerate. If you realy really cant stand it once you are sure there are no live wasps in put somthing on the ground and knock it down with a broom handle but I would wait until winter just in case
