People take drugs because they hate reality. A call for help really.

Criminalising these people is purely idiocy. The criminals are the people demonising this group.

Rubbish, these people take drugs because they like it and cannot be bothered to face up to reality.
Why is is that the majority on sink estates are not druggies or alkies but just doing their best to make something of their lives, despite not having the best start.
I am speaking here as someone who grew up on a SE london council estate and could have gone down the druggie/ benefits route if I had chosen to.

I'm also from a poor background as a child. I know exactly what you mean.

However, some people do take drugs as a sense of diversion from reality, not all of course.

Usually those who have nothing, suffer severe depression and want to end their lives.

Then there are others who need their 'fix'. Criminals on drugs who commit crime. I wouldnt group them all in the same group though, just because their on 'drugs'.

    Fair point.
What annoys me though is that drug users are often classed as victims. In fact it appears that being addicted is classed as a disability and can mean increased benefits and better access to social housing. That seems wrong to me. It is a kick in the teeth to those that try to do the right thing.

Hmmm, in the words of the genius himself, I'll rather take my handshake of carbon monoxide thanks.

Much rather the imaginary kick in teeth than the IB to (help) pay for the smack. ....The rest is obviously funded by selling my ass.... funny really... thats kinda how it all started at age 7... hate to be labelled the victim though... fuck it, pass us the citric & the foil...

I dunno... all I do know (now) is that the best cure for a multitude of problems is the normality that those (apologies for the approaching stereotype) < daily mail readers > seem to think is second rate to a life on benefits. Why don't they swap if so convinced? Sell your soul. Dare ya..... Me though, I take my hardwood 5 piece garden furniture set and matching parasol, ta

People who choose to take drugs commit numerous crimes against victims. To understand their 'choice' (i.e. depression, etc) is not to excuse it.

For your information, you ignorant blockheads, I moved from a flat with quite a high rent to a council flat in February. I was lucky - I had been on the council waiting-list for 4.5 years so got offered a council flat.

What's so good about lying and cheating just because you are in work? (like my example of double-glazing salesmen do virtually all of their working days).

I pay £5.00 a month on my internet connection and roughly £5.00 a month for a pay--as-you-go mobile phone. Hardly excessive.

I have found a job - fingers crossed- starting towards the end of this month. I live in an area of relatively low unemployment, compared to many parts of the country. I have been applying for many jobs without success until recently. Haven't you heard about the unemployment problem in this country?! Haven;t you ever considered there are more people looking for work than there are jobs available??! Have you ever heard of the Depression in the 1930s - when no state benefits were available??!!

You could say that people accepting below minimum-wage level employment, are cheating the system. They are allowing rogue employers to get away with this practice (& often getting paid cash-in-hand, thus paying no tax or NI) thus bringing down the average level of private sector wages (as well as obviously breaking the law).
I refuse to apply for jobs in this illegal sector of the economy - and why shouldn't I?

Matt, ever started to think the minimum wage is a rubbish idea? If it wasn't illegal, would you consider those jobs?
