the OP has my sympathy for however she deals with the bumph which accompanies every issue of RD!

In my case, I think I'd signed up for a very cheap 3 month trial before an anticipated hospital stay, but I had not opened any of the magazines because my admission was delayed. When I did open them I found that they were expecting me to pay more. Even after I HAD cancelled they continued to send. And getting rid of the prize draw mailings - nightmare! They were certainly going into the shredder unopened after I'd returned a dozen or more marked RTS, PLEASE TAKE ME OFF YOUR MAILING LISTS!

It's a lesson - don't dispose of ALL mail unread! Didn't you remove the letter that had your name and address on it, and shred it first? Don't tell me you put mail with your name and address on it into the recycling!

No, my name and address is printed onto the clear little plastic bag the magazine is in. It can't be shredded and I put it into my regular bin.
*edit* sorry, I just realised you meant the letter telling me about the subscription. Obviously it must have gone into the recycling because I didn't see it!

Some years back I had exactly the same problem with Readrs Digest, as much as I enjoyed their magazine, they became so annoying by saying ( the same as you) I owed them for the year ahead subscription, I wrote to them and still I rceived an invoice, I wrote again this time, recordd delivery so they couldnt say they never got the letter, it took a few months for them to stop asking me, I didnt send back any magazines as they sent them off their own back, and why should I pay for return postage when I didnt order them. I am having the same problem now with 'The chocolate Tasting Club' I cancelled my subscription on line and it was acknowledged then a few weks later I started getting phone calls saying I owed thm money for chocs they had sent me, I checked my bank statments in case I was wrong but no I had paid everything I was due, I then started to receive letters asking for payments, I wrote a letter to them confirming I had cancelled my subscription and all my payment dates, within a few days I rceived their usual box of chocs that I would have got if I was a member ( although it was thoroughly squashed indeed) I wrote to them again saying why should I pay for a box of chocs I never ordered and why should I pay to send it back, I havn't done either yet as I awaiting their reply, but if I have to send it back I bet you they will think it was me who damaged the box etc, anyway they havnt replied yet and its been about two weeks now!! Why in this day and age do these companies insist we havnt notified them of cancellations etc, with all the technology around and the speed they can take money off us, they still wish to ignore us so they can make money. Of course, if you haven't opened something, you can just put it back in the post with Return to Sender in big letters on it. No need to pay for return postage if it's by Royal Mail.

Me again, just touching on the reply re 'RD might be taking payments off your daughters card etc) reminds me of a huge problem I had with BT Vision, Ive never had Vision but when I got broadband installed my son paid it for me on his card and months later I was wondering why I hadnt had a bill when I enquired to BT they said it had been paid, simple mistake I thought and explained about my son paying etc and I would repay him what ever BT had taken from his account, he never even noticed, anyway a few weeks after I started to receive 'booklets' about 'my BT Vision package' I ignored it as I thought it was advertising, as I pay for my BT bill on line now I was used to just seeing my phone bill etc then I discovered that BT had a page for me for BT Vision and a bill had run up, I was sure this had been a mistake, so I phoned them, they insisted I had a package and went even so far as to say I had watchd certain films on it, which I hadnt, trying to explain that I never had a vision package or never asked for one was unbelivable to say the least, I wrote ltters to BT sent dozens of e.mails etc, I couldnt get accross to them that I hardly watch the 5 channels I have normaly never mind be intrested in the Vision service, and so it went on, I felt I was losing the plot, so I threatened to take it further, I dont know who to but I would have found out, I got this very nice girl on the phone who understood evrything I was saying but then asked, 'if I didnt have a Vision box or package why was it being paid for in the first couple of months' and there you have it, BT were charging my sons card with the bill and as it had been paid it just carried on, (I think my son must have more money than he lets on as he never chcked his account and never noticed BT taking money for at least 6 months) But why there was a bill at all is still a mystery and Ive had no explanation for that at all. (I felt at the time I was arguing with BT that I was losing my marbles, it was a very bad feeling, I even said to them that they better send someone out here to check as maybe I had a knome in the shed that was plugged into my ariel or that my neighbours, half a mile from my house, were maybe mixed up with my address or something) Knowing your right and not being believed is so demoralising. I am hoping the 'Chocolate' people will send a lable for posting back the box as unless I pay for posting back myself they might say they never got it. ( I will ask at th PO if I can get a proof of posting if I am returning to sender without paying for it) I thought of keeping it but by the looks of the box there will be a lot of chocs damaged, I could have used it for a present as unfortunately now I cant eat them as Ive just been diagnosed with diabetes, their chocs were about the best Ive ever tasted and wouldnt put anyone off their product, but for me Ive had to stop my membership for different reasons. I have often rung RD and they have always agreed to do whatever I asked eg send no further copies of a subscription product, cancel an order ( though sometimes they may say it has already been posted but I can send it back at their expense). They are obviously out to get more subscribers but in my experience they do play fair and respond to written or phone requests.
