.mov

We took a small film with our camera (Kodak easyshare) and it uploaded it to computer. Found it was a wee bit dark so thought we would upload it to movie maker and found it couldn't because it had extension .mov

Can you advise how to make it a file acceptable for editing?

I always use Super to convert my files.

I would download it from Filehippo as downloading from author's site can sometimes put you in a loop around webpages.

Try converting the mov to avi

Transcoding video - converting it from one file format to another - is a bad idea unless you specifically have a reason to do it. Kodak's own software is available for free at

so I'd give that a try first.

True, though you can convert from .mov to .avi without re-encoding using something like:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/mp4cam2avi/

which just changes the wrapper, so no loss in quality.

Good call. Depending on the codecs used you might have to install the codec for it once you've changed the container too.
