I currently have a 2.4 petrol Hyundia Santa Fe GLS (4wd) with less than 40k on it (2003) but I am not using it for its purpose in life as a tower and workhorse.

Because I drive low miles (less than 6k per year) the MPG and cost of fuel does not have much bearing on use.

I have seen a Mondeo estate, 2004 on a 1.8 Sci Ghia X, and am wondering if it makes sense to try and swap?

its up for £4500 so anyone any idea on a part ex what would be a good figure to go in with?

Also good idea or just keep the Santa Fe and save up for the Focus ST3 i would really like :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

4500 is a bit on the expensive side - I only paid £1000 more for the same age diesel Ghia 2 years ago BUT if its a straight swap, it sounds OK.

Personally though, even though I love the 55MPG of my Mondeo and do near 20k a year, I'd have the ST3 :D:D:D

1.8 would be a bit under-powered for towing I think.

Change when you need to change. Otherwise you will spend money you don't have to. All deals are to the dealers advantage, not yours. :T

If you have a car in mind ie the ST or whatever, calculate when you can afford it, work out the extra cost in fuel with the present car untill that time and figure the value of swapping for another undesirable car right now, all about sums versus street cred ;)

    Something to bare in mind........

A lot of people sell a car because there's something wrong with it. You could be buying a whole world of trouble...

Sci is the direct injection petrol engine, Watch out for engine management faults. Big bills.

A standard 1.8 or 2.0 will be cheaper to run, Seriously overpriced.

I paid just under £2500 for a 2004/04 130bhp diesel estate just before xmas 2009.

Guy i bought it from, probably paid £1800 at auction for it?

Unsure how you'll get on trying to straight swap a thirsty 4x4. I've just had great success doing so with a frugal 5 door Astra but that'll be easier to sell than the 2.0 petrol Mondeo sized hatchback I swapped it for :rotfl:

Bigger dealers that can afford to have a load of stock lying around and trade upon the potential value of your part ex no matter how long it takes to sell are your best bet in this situation.

Its a local dealer, selling cars in the £2000 to £6000 range so my hyundai would fit his profile.

Not looking to sell because anything wrong with it, just because I dont use it for its purpose and to be honest I fancy something that pulls a bit more off the lights is all, but still has the practicality the estate would give me.

If he offers silly money then its no issue, keep the santa fe and not worry. its all paid for and does what I need it to.
