Does anyone know where I can get a simple answer to price per kwh/unit from each of the gas and electric suppliers? Pay quaterly bill.
I find the individual sites hard to find and have tried emailing some for this info but they don't want to know.
Used to be able to just phone up but thats a nightmare now.
Customer service seems to be a thing of the past.

Hi twopenny - I'm afraid that the stated price per Kwh on your bills, is not the whole story

1 There is a service charge, which is collected by either a fixed amount each day, or on "No Standing Charge"tariffs, a fixed number of units each Quarter being charged at a higher rate

2 Nearly all tariffs have some sort of discount, which vary from a few % for quick payment by cheque to settle a quarterly bill, with over 18% for Direct Debit payments with online billing

3 Then after all these calculations, VAT is added at 5%

The simple answer is to divide your bill total by the number of Kwh used, but be aware that because of lifestyle differences, the people living in the house next door on the same tariff with the same supplier, will probably be paying a different price per Kwh per bill

The way forward is to enter your total Kwh consumption per year into a Switch Site, and let them do the hard work for you

Use comparison sites and put in your annual useage in Kwh, as per the above post its not straightforward, soem suppliers have different breakpoints between the first xx kwh at a higher price and the rest at a lower rate that'll add £60-£120-£180 to your bill depending on where they move the breakpoints too.

Best approach is using the comparison site to home in on the better one and perhaps then check their sums for that one deal if you think you need to.

uswitch is a good starting point

Also worth mentioning don;t use uswitch to switch you, if you use uswitch to find the best deal for your useage but then use a cashback site to actually do the switch thru you can get up to £120 odd cashback from the same switch

A lot of the comparison sites don't take payment discounts into account either !

Our system is crazy anyway - the more energy you use the less you you pay per kWh - a total disincentive to save energy !!!

Your a lot quicker than the energy companies at answering a question - min 4 days!
There are some helpful hints there and shows how complicated they make it plus constant change - but I have found the comparison sites not to reflect a true comparison.
as to lifestyle I just switched of the gas last winter (as did a lot of people here) and snuggled down with a duvet and hot water bottle! Saved £600! Shower at swimming pool/gym.
Also saved by noting the dates of price rises and insisting on registering it rather than letting them estimate it. Fiddlely but satisfying.
