Direct Debits on a weekend.

Hi,
I had a direct debit due to come out on 28th June (today).
I had set up a new direct debit which also happened to come out on 28th June.
What happened was I logged into my online banking on Saturday and saw that both direct debits had come out of my account with the date of 28th June.
The problem was I hadn't expected the second direct debit to come out as it was a newly set-up one so there weren't enough funds to cover it.
As I have no overdarft the balance available was showing as 0.
I then transfered enough money from my other account (my bank supports instant transfer) to cover both direct debits.
What I want to know is that as both Direct Debist were showing as 28 June is that the date when the money actually leaves my account or will one of the DD be rejected and I will be charged?
Technically there was enough money in the account on the day the DD was supposed to come out (28 June).

Technically there has to be enough money to cover the debit on the working day before it is debited.
Some banks stick to this rigidly, and would bounce the payment, others seem to permit it.0 -

I think you need to speak with your bank to find out an acurate answer. Most banks state that you need the funds in your account the working day before an item is due, which would have been Friday. Some banks will offer same day cash cover, but you need to check this, often the service is not guaranteed.Best Regards

It seems stupid that it was only a matter of around £7.0

Just phoned my bank (RBS) and they say it is fine.
On a weekend the system rolls over to the next working day but the money doesn't actually leave until that day.
So as long as there is sufficient money in the bank on that day then it should all be OK.
She actually said I could have paid the money in today and it would have been OK.
Might be different for other banks.0
