I have been using Quicken 6 for my domestic finances for the past 11 years - have just changed my PC and it won't run under Widows 7 !!.
Does anyone know of a basic domestic finances package that I can switch too ? Preferably freeware or at a small cost.
All I require is a basic current account spreadsheet which will provide a running statement of account and which can be reconciled against my bank statement. I do not require VAT calculations, percentage of expenditure on this, that or the other - just a simple, basic package.
TIA

Did you try fiddling with the compatibility features in windoows 7 as a first step?
(typically right click on the file and selecting 'run as' XP/NT/Win98 mode etc -do it for the file rather than the shortcut and launch directly)0 -
You could run it in Windows 7 'XP mode' .. basically a free XP install in a virtual machine .. depending on your w7 versionWindows XP Mode is a downloadable add-on for Windows 7 Professional, Ultimate, and Enterprise. It has two parts: the virtualization software itself, and a disk image containing a pre-installed, activated, licensed copy of Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 3 preinstalled, complete with the glorious Internet Explorer 6.0

Microsoft money still works fine and downloads [ online banking ] statements etc from your UK bank, even though it's not been supported since 2007. In fact my legal copy of MM 2005 still works fine !Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. Thanks for the comments - I have tried them all in different ways but none work, can't even get it off the CD !
Some later versions of Quicken will work apparently, but mine is 1999 vintage - just too old I suppose.0 -
I was happy to use Quicken but when I got a new PC I realised I had lost my Quicken CD so I had to search for a replacement. I now use Moneydance, it's almost as good and can import the data files from Quicken so you don't lose any information.0

Before you spend money on non-Open Source products, have you taken a look at GnuCash?
It can import Quicken files, and is supposedly Win7 compatible.I was happy to use Quicken but when I got a new PC I realised I had lost my Quicken CD so I had to search for a replacement. Hadn't come across this one - Tried it for 10 minutes then bought it !
Just what I was looking for, quite "Quicken-like" in its operation.
Many thanks. :T:T0 -

You make an important observation, 1999 !
It's unlikely that any ' compatibility ' mode will work. I'm guessing as I don't have a copy that old, but it will almost certainly have been written in 8bit
You can one way or another get any old 16bit to work in any flavour of Windows, sometimes in a crude but functional manner. However asking the O/S to run 8bit code is probably too much.
My answer is a guess, if anyone knows better please feel free to correct me.Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. Oracle's VirtualBox will run Windows 98 as a guest OS under any recent version of Windows. Could you install it on that?
They do admit that it is "not optimised" (i.e. runs slow), though!0
