healthcare plan

Options
i've read martin's article about healthcare plans and am seriously intersted. The MSE article was written in June last year - is anyone aware of any better deals on the market? I'm looking for basic single adult cover at no more than £10/month.

many thanks

  • If you want to claim for everything then be careful. Although they all set limits they don't like you getting near them. Today I had a policy cancelled because during the 6 months I've had it I have claimed nearly half of the limit for myself and my kids in only one area (complimentary therapies).

Although HSA came out as a poor performer, at the moment they are saying that you can claim as soon as your policy starts (most of the others have a 3 - 6 month qualifying period). They also assured me that they will not cancel a policy unless you are claiming around 5 times more than what you have paid in, and even then they may just impose a few restrictions.

It seems a waste to take out a policy, go through the qualifying period and then because you claim, have it cancelled. Don't be fooled by high limits thinking it's a good deal, they won't let you claim that much.

  • hi i was just reading the replies to the ? set and i too would like to know something my son has just taken out a policy with a company called "COMBINED" at a cost of £57 a quarter which i think is a lot he is 18 years old, and they did the sel on how much can be claimed and yea yea all big fancy figures which sounded so good to him, the name of the policy is ACCIDENT HOSPITAL BENEFIT PLAN and they have recruted lots of the boys from my sons rugby club stating the importance of the plan to them, as if they had an accident and were unable to work what they would be entitled to etc, as i have had no dealings with this type of ins, myself and understand that they do need some type of of cover without the need to quote the huge figures to him in the event of an accident do you know any ins, that are good and would cover them. I feel this policy is very pricey in deed

So far I've not had that problem with WPA, and I hope I don't. In the first year I claimed nearly £150 for dental work - which is the ceiling in year 1. Last year almost nothing, but this year sadly it'll be about £200. I just hope they honour what their advertising claims.

As a point of interest, as I am appoaching this years limit already does anyone know if (a) you can take out a second plan and (b) what a good deal may be? I would like to hedge my bets as I am expecting around £450 in dental work and would like to make sure as much if it is covered as possible.
