What MPV?

Just looking for some recommendations really. I want to change our car, which is a thirsty Astra, to an MPV (need the extra seats for ferrying kid's schoolfriends/grandparents about and boot space for camping trips). However, I also travel about 35 miles to work everyday and so I need something fairly economical on fuel.

Better fuel economy than an astra but an MPV? If you find one, give me a shout, I'll take it.0

It doesn't have to have better fuel economy than the Astra, but does have to have good fuel economy among MPVs!0 -
Personally I can't fault my Kia Sedona. Its an 03 reg and I've had it since 06, get about 400 miles out of a 65l tank of Diesel. Its a manual, the auto is not so good. I have had no problems with it at all yet. (knock on wood!)0

Most diesel smaller size mpvs (like zafira) should return in the 40s mpg.I think....0

Try the Mazda 5, reliable, good mpg, and looks ok!0

It's an mpv so it can't 'look good':rotfl:.
But Mazda reliability and frugality I would endorse.;)0 -
What's your budget?
Are you looking for a new or used one?0 -
I've had a Honda FR-V diesel for over 4 years and average 50mpg (not driven like a lunatic). It's got 6 seats - 2 rows of 3.
I used to have a Zafira diesel but the boot was tiny if you used the rear seats and I didn't like the fact the rearmost seats where so close to the back window - no so good if you get shunted up the rear.
They don't make the FR-V any more but they hold their value well, are reliable, yet frugal (I always get over 500 miles on a tank) and if required the 2.2 diesel has some poke to get you out of trouble (or just have a 'blat' ).
The Mazda 5 was also on a my shortlist but the pl0nkers at the Mazda dealership left the light on with the boot open and flattened the battery.....If at first you don't succeed, try, try, try - oh bu99er that just cheat0 -
Look out for an LPG Zafira. Some of the old shapes ones (upto 2005) were converted to LPG from new. They'll do about 30mpg, which is OK, but considering LPG is half the price of petrol; pound for mile you're looking at the equivalent of a 60mpg vehicle. Slightly discounted tax and no congestion charge too.
Agreed though, the back seats do pretty much take up entire boot, leaving little room for much else. But then if you're not using them everyday, just on odd occasions when you've got other kids, family about, it may be a reasonably compromise.0 -
We have the poor man's FRV, a Fiat Multipla - not as well built but a lot more roomy inside and the saving on purchase price will more than pay for a warranty, diesel does low 40s mpg, petrol does mid 20s and high tax so less recommended (we have one of each!)I've had a Honda FR-V diesel for over 4 years and average 50mpg (not driven like a lunatic).
