    Hi einalem

I can confirm we are currently charging £50 per meter for non-essential meter changes.

However, I'm afraid there are fairly strict guidelines to follow before we will agree to replace a Prepayment with a Credit meter.

You will need to be our customer for at least 12 months before we will look at your request. After this time, we will carry out a credit check.

Agreeing to change the meter will depend on the results of the credit check.

These are guidelines only, though, and there may be other things to take into consideration; like any vulnerability at the property, or a good credit history with us at a former residence.

Sorry if this is a bit negative einalem. Thought it might be useful to highlight the restrictions.

thanks for the advice on edf :T I rang them they said I will need to switch to prepayment with them for 28 days then after 28 days ring back up and I will be switched to monthly dd they were really helpful makes a change for customer service.......straight though to a helpful advisor

saved the £100 it would have cost with eon :) .........why don't eon do it for free I switched to eon when I moved here two years ago and have paid prepayment since then and would have gladly stuck with them if it was not for the charge they want as I don't see why I should have to pay to pay my bill monthly when other companies will not charge

    Hi einalem

At one time we did carry out non-essential meter changes free of charge.

However, there is a cost involved each time we change a meter and the number of requests for this service became so great that these costs were having a detrimental effect on the business.

Consequently, in July 2008 it was decided to pass on the costs of this work to customers.

The charge covers the costs of the engineers visit and associated admin expenses only. It is also restricted to non-essential changes carried out at the customer's request.

All meter changes instigated by us or as a result of general upgrades continue to be done without charge.

Each supplier will have their own approach to how they absorb such overheads. Therefore, to avoid picking up a fee, you are absolutely right to choose a provider who chooses not to pass these costs on as a direct charge.

Sorry I can't offer more comfort einalem but I hope this at least explains why we decided to pass on this expense in the way we have.
