Welcome to MSE old and broke,
There is a thread at the top of the board that deals with this topic, if you copy your post over there you should be able to get some support.Gone ... or have I?0 -
I feel inclined to fight this. I have seen no fuss in the media about the hardship it will cause but I think those of us so badly affected need to make our voices heard. I have e-mailed my MP and all the DWP Ministers concerned and will be contacting the CAB Policy Unit and Age UK to ask them to lobby for changes to the detail that will take the severe hardship caused to some (particularly pensioners on Pension Credit with fixed rate mortgages) into account. After that I will be going to the media. In late 2008/early 2009 the SMI rate went down in line with the Bank of England interest rate and enough sound was made for Alistair Darling to put it back up and back date the compensation for people who had been severely affected. Please contact your MP and the Ministers at the DWP by e-mail and let the CAB and AgeUK know if you are pushed into poverty by this. They need to know.0

Hi Old & Broke, welcome to the real world!!!
We (62 & 66) were in your position except they refused point blank to help with any of the interest!!
So we had no alternative but to hand the house back to the bank a couple of months ago.
Bought a new 3 bed semi in 2002 with our life savings & a mortgage. Now seems we may have lost some if not all of the equity - £70,000+.
Now living in a rented 1 bed flat conversion in not a nice area. Cheapest that we could get that would be covered by the Housing Benefit.
Fact of life - just got to get on with it now although the wife is still distraught and upset with leaving everything behind except the bed and sofa that we took with us.
Too old and tired to fight anymore0 -

As usual, no good deed goes unpunished.
