For those wondering OP's salary from his figures would have been
basic salary: £15,600
sleep-in (average): £4,550
Total: £20,150
Whereas he was paid the hourly rate whilst sleeping in his salary would have been: £27,820

Over 20,000 is not bad for the care sector, particularly as I get the impression that the OP has no experience in this field.0 -
She told them that and they said it doesnt apply in her area of work and esp not for lone working because you cant leave the vulnerable adult alone. Ive tried looking online for working regulations/breaks etc but it seems to be a total grey area to be honest. Sorry OP, for taking over the thread!

It sounds as though your mum's job is the same as mine - it's common practice and legal.
How long has she been doing the job - I took mine knowing that's how it works?
We dont get breaks as such but I assume she is like me and has a fair bit of time when she can sit with a cuppa?
Does she 'relax' with the residents?
If I'm sat watching a film with the residents, I count that as a break tbh - I know it's not strictly but then I wouldn't have an hour and a half long break in any job iyswim?
Some shifts are hard work but mostly we
can arrange things so we get time out every now and again - I take a break when it's quiet and get any work done after if need be.
There is positives and negatives to any job and I think lone working has many advantages tbh.
I'm wondering why people take these jobs if they want set breaks and routines? It's just not possible in a residential home imo so you have to be able to adapt to the shift as it presents.0 -

I am also looking at starting my own web design and hosting company just incase I need to fall back on something.
