Who is at fault - the consumer for wanting a cheap bed / long lasting.
Big brands spending more on their image than their products??
What are consumers suppose to do???
Sorry I meant sleep council!!!
It is the hardest thing to choose and that you can't get away with it if you make the wrong choice!!
How comes Ikea is last??0 -
We bought a Rest Assured Sanctuary latex I think it is, 17 months ago, having had a Millbrook for 10 years prior to that. Spent a lot of time reading the various bed threads on here so feel it is time to do an update on the bed which I'll continue to do every so often so there's something on this mattress over time instead of the first couple of weeks. I have a friend who ended up with the exact same mattress by chance at pretty much the same time (we both ended up driving Corolla Versos by coincidence) so will take her view into account next time but haven't seen her since Christmas so can't this time.
DH and I are still loving this mattress. At this point in time it is utterly divine and I can't wait to get into bed. Back problems we had with the old mattress are dim and distant memory. When on holiday we're desperate to get home to our mattress. Will we be saying similar in another 6 months having had it for two years, who knows but at the moment it is as good as when we bought it. I'll try to remember to update round the two year mark as I'm interested to know whether we will end up regretting our decision and if so, at what point.0 -
Tim - do you work in the bed trade?
I ask because my mother is looking for a new mattress and would like your input which brand is the best in terms of quality and value.0 -

It's the manufacturer who is at fault. All they are interested in is profit. They are cutting quality to the bone in order to maximise profit. At the same time they are using all sorts of gimmicks and hype to make the mattresses more attractive to buy. A perfect example is pillow top mattresses with lose fillings. They feel very comfortable in the shop when they are new, but in time when the fillings move about, and you end up sleeping in a hollow, they aren't so comfortable.I_luv_cats wrote: »Big brands spending more on their image than their products??
Yes they do. This is because people believe adverts, especially TV adverts. How many times have you seen adverts that say 'As seen on TV'?
Their attitude seems to be that if you convince enough people through TV advertising, then this will far out weigh the bad press they get from unhappy customers.I_luv_cats wrote: »What are consumers suppose to do???- Don't listen to advertising.
- Stay away from big brands who have automated production, and buy from smaller independent brands, who still make their mattresses by hand.
- Buy on line to get the best price.
- Buy from a seller who gives a proper satisfaction guarantee that allows you to unpack and sleep on the mattress.

Sorry, so did I......but it was late when I replied.I_luv_cats wrote: »It is the hardest thing to choose and that you can't get away with it if you make the wrong choice!!
Yes you can if you buy from someone who gives a proper satisfaction guarantee. And if you speak to them first to ask advice.I_luv_cats wrote: »How comes Ikea is last??
Because their quality of mattress construction, and design isn't good0 -

Yes I do. But I can't recommend anything on MSE, as that would be advertising.
I'm on here to give people general advice, and to tell people the truth about all the gimmicks and hype used in the bed industry.0 -

They are part of the SN group.
Ignore the sliding scale warranty. All products must have a design life. So for example if something has a design life of 5 years, and develops a fault due to materials or workmanship after 4 years, then the manufacturer must pay towards the cost of replacement or repair. But you would have to pay 80% plus delivery. So when manufacturers give a 5 year warranty, then they are only doing what they are obliged to do by law, but they are using it as a sales gimmick.I_luv_cats wrote: »I've cancelled my order.

Like I said, stay away from big stores and big brands, and shop on line.
John Lewis are over priced, and most of their mattresses are non turn, which will shorten the life of the mattress if you can't turn it.0
