Anyone attended/attending University open days?

I went to open days before applying to uni in 2008 for 2009 start. I am just finishing my first year at the University of Worcester and love it here.
I visited York St John, Huddersfield, Bishop Grosseteste University College in Lincoln, Newman University College in Birmingham, Birmingham City University and Worcester and from previous study at uni Sheffield Hallam and Nottingham Trent.
Both me and my OH were moving for my uni course so we needed to make sure we would like the area, I would like the uni and the course as well as researching properties in the area when we were at the open days.
If anyone wants to know anything about the above unis then let me know.0 -
Hi
My husband has is just finishing at Nottingham (nursing) and it has a great reputation0 -
I am also a Nottingham Uni. student and can't recommend it highly enough. The facilities are great, the transport system is good, 10 minutes to the centre of town. Two minutes from the beautiful Woolaton Park, Nottingham train station is perfect for the rest of the country.
The lecturers are awesome, my tutor couldn't be more helpful, as are the lecturers if you have any issues about a subject. I am doing Biology and my contact hours are more than adequate, about 18-20 hours a week. The night life is great, by all accounts (I am a mature student, mother of two, so can't comment too much on personal experience, although I am very much in the minority - there are only 6 or so mature students in a class of about 100)
The demand for places is very high though. I think it averages out at about 10% places offered to applicants.
Hope this helps, at least with Nottingham!"Facts do not cease to exist because they are ignored." Aldous Huxley.

Thanks for the replies. I know it's "horses for courses" etc and what suits one student will not suit another, but it's great to hear different views.
Ipswichblade, my friends daughter just looked at Worcester and is on her list. My husband travelled there for work most days so he knows the area quite well. My daughter is interested in NeuroScience and not all Universities do it but Birmingham might have been one of them.
What did you think of Birmingham?
7891368, thanks for your reply good to know about the trains. We stayed there friday night and the local paper had shootings on the front page! We heard sirens and saw lots of police but as you say there are always certain areas that you just don't go.
My daughter did like the catered accommodation, perhaps she liked the idea of not cooking! Only drawback is packing everything up at Easter & Christmas.2013

Do you know what course she is applying for? I do teacher training and the department is great. Just been marked outstanding by oftsed again. It has a good reputation for nursing and paramedic courses too.
I like Birmingham as a place (I'm from a big city - Leeds and wouldn't have minded living in a big city again) but Newman University College looked like a sixth form college at best! The woman there tried to persuade me to apply for key stage 2/3 course for ICT when I said one of my A-Levels was in ICT. I said I wanted to do a primary course and not a key stage 2/3 course but she kept on about it. I didn't find people friendly there at all! Not a good impression at all and I didn't get good vibes about the one in Lincoln either but I still applied to that one unlike Newman!
Birmingham Uni has a good reputation as far as I know.0
