Anyone know what this is?
File Name: C:\Program Files\Online Services\Internet From BT\WebControl\btwebcontrol.dll
Status: PUP: Win32: Dialer-KT [PUP]
Avast is recognising this as a possible threat.

From other people's similar reports, it looks like this has been picked up for quite a while as a false positive.
If Avast has quarantined it, I'd leave it there for now and see if everything still works normally - it's possibly a piece of code that you never use anyway.0 -
Should I just close the scan results page for now as it's given me four options, move to chest, repair, delete or do nothing?0
-
Think quarantine is 'move to chest'. You can undo it later so...0
-
It looks to be one of the utilities provided by your ISP (or ex-ISP?) that most people don't use (or don't need to use). As such I would "move to chest", reboot and see if everything works normally.
If so, leave it there and forget about it, if not, go back and restore it to its original place.0 -
By reboot you mean switch my laptop off then on again?
I wonder if it's worth contacting my ISP if it is one of the utilities provided by my ISP? Maybe they might be able to tell me??0 -
Reboot means restar.
Probably not worth the time/hassle contacting your ISP as the call centre won't probably know what they're doing in my experience...0 -
Got it, thanks!
Was actually thinking of emailing them, if they reply.0 -
Keep getting “Error: Access is denied (5)” when trying to move to chest.0
-
It's apparently not a major worry (or google search suggests)- but needs better advise from others.
I think it can be ignored. Do you have internet by BT?0 -
No, though that's why I queried it, it was the fact that it had BT mentioned on the file otherwise I may have just moved it straight to the chest.
I’m rescanning my laptop right now just in case. Annoying as I was hoping to turn off my laptop as I left the dam thing on from this morning, when I came home from working a night shift I left it on when I went to bed this morning so has been on since 10am ‘til now.0
