My 2 ft sweetcorn has mini shoots coming out of the main stem just under ground level i`m sure it`s not a seperate plant so my question is what should i do cut it off or leave it?

Definitely leave them on. The sideshoots are called 'tillers' - some people try to remove them in the hope that they will get a bigger corn cob from the main shoot, but they find that it's a risky move that can damage the plant.0

Leave well alone. Sweetcorn, unlike tomatoes, don't like to have any sideshoots removed and it's easy to damage the plant trying to fiddle around with it. If they're looking healthy just let nature takes its course.0
