I just give it a wash. Take some of the leaves off but don't cut down to the beetroot itself, leave the roots on (if you cut too near the beetroot it will bleed whilst cooking). I put them into water, bring to the boil and simmer for approx 20mins. Depends on the size of the beetroot. You will know when they are cooked as the skins will peel off easily.0

I agree with above post - mine usually only take about 20 mins, a bit longer if they are older or been left in ground too long, just stick a knife in it to test like you would when boiling spuds. I love homegrown beetroot, going to be a while before mine is ready though."WASTE NOT, WANT NOT!"GC for OH, myself, DD18 & DD16 includes Toiletries, cleaning stuff & Food.

I was always told to twist the leaves off, not cut, to stop the beet bleeding during cooking
Never tried cutting, so no idea if this is true ot not, just seemed easier to follow "rules" rather than maybe ruin good beets
BTW, if you give them a really good scrub & clean before cooking, the left over cooking liquid can be used as base for beetroot wine, which is very drinkable. Used to do it years ago. Have a GoogleWhen an eel bites your bum, that's a Moray0 -
i always twist off the leaves - wrap in foil and bake at around 150-200 for say 20-30 mins, the skin then just peels off so no need to worry too much regarding the washing prior to cooking. tastes great and lasts a few days in the fridge in an air tight container0

I read somewhere about microwaving, which I've tried successfully. Lop the leaves off then wrap in clingfilm and microwave for about 3-5 minutes depending on the size. It's worth putting them on some kitchen towel to soak up the juices which will come out when cooking.Make £2026 in 2026
