If you take this to it's illogical conclusion - you would have to keep all the packing for everything you buy for SIX years !0

In answer to to your question. No, you don't.
All that is generally required is some proof of purchase.0 -
Just to add too you don't need the packaging but where possible return any additional parts/accessories that come with the item, e.g. if you are wanting to return a television take back the TV, remote, power cable, instruction booklet, aerial cable (if it was provided) etc.[DISCLAIMER: Any posts made by myself are my opinions and do not represent my employer]
