no LH surge from ovulation kit?

Hi,

i recently bought the clearblue ovulation digital test kit. I have been following the instructions and have tested a few days before i should but today it says is the day i should def test because of the length of my menstrul cycle. it is showing up as negative though. does this mean i do not have an lh surge at all? and could this mean problems with my fertility?

thanks!

Just because your cycle is USUALLY X length doesn't mean this cycle is going to be that length

Some people also have shorter luteal phases, if it's less than 10 days it not only confuses ovulation monitors but is a big reason why some people don't conceive

I very much doubt there is anything wrong the instructions on those things are guidlines some people ovulate early some later. Have you charted your periods over a few months or just used your last cycle to go by? I ask as it could be your a day or two out maybe. I used the clear blue and it worked for me but then i am as regular as clock work its not so easy if your pattern changes each month or if you have an unusual cycle.

It may be worth you popping on the trying to concieve thread the ladies on there will have plenty of advise on how to spot when your due to ovulate even without the tests and be able to advise where to get the tests cheaper as its not exactly pennies we are talking for the clear blue ones :-)

found that before I started taking my temperature as well I kept missing my surge. But after taking temps as well I found my surge a lot easier.

Also my instructions weren't too clear (or I read them wrong) and I was testing in the am, rather than between 15:00 - 17:00 the only problem I had then was making sure I didn't go to the toilet for a while before I was testing and not drinking too much. I didn't think that would make much difference but as my ovulation time is such a small window I was clearly missing by testing in the morning, it was only when I tested am and pm on the day I should have had my surge and am was neg, but pm was positive and negative again by morning.

    HTH

    Good luck

you can easily miss your surge, my GP told me in some women it is only detectable for a short period of time ie 8-10 hours...so even if you tested 2 x a day you could still miss it.

We were ttc 12.5 months with last child..i went to GPs very worried, saying the same as you i had been using ovulation kits and they were showing no surge...i even took it with me so he could help me go through the instructions (lol), now i have known my gp on a proffessional and personal level (great family friend) since i was born..he actually go the kit and put it in the bin (although i doubt he would do this to a patient he didnt know outside of work lol)

Anyway, he told me to forget about ttc and have some fun,the odd glass of wine and to relax but if nothing had happened in 3 months go back... well, i was back 6 weeks later pregnant! It seems his advice worked! IF we ever decided on number 4 we wont be maiking plans, we will decide we want one and see what happens. No opk, no timings no nothing but enjoying practicing.. :rotfl::rotfl:

BTW he also said that the stress of testing for surges could actually be counter productive to your cycle...also, once you have got a positive OPK reading you have usually missed the boat as it can take 72 hrs for the sperm to get where it needs to be, so ideally you shouldve done the deed in the last 36 hrs prior to getting a positive result

    Good luck trying

A word of warning about ovulation kits - they don't work for some people!. I had terrible trouble getting pregnant with my dd and started using ovulation kits while I was also having blood tests at the doctors to see if I was actually ovulating. They didn't work for me - they kept saying that I was ovulating only for the blood test results to come back saying no I definitely hadn't that month.

Because of this I tried monitoring my temperature daily but this was also a bit hit and miss until I found the Boots Digital Fertility Monitor (you can buy them cheap on ebay). It is a temperature system but it has an alarm so you take your temperature at exactly the same time every day and when your temperature goes up is when you are ovulating, it stores a couple of months worth of data as well so you can look back for patterns. I found this so good I got pregnant within 3 months of using it - not bad after 2 and a half years of trying!
