I currently have the British Gas HomeServ 400 policy and also 2 other policies with United Utilities to cover any problems that might arise with my heating, plumbing, electrical appliances, etc. Are they worth the money and are these things that would normally be covered in my home insurance anyway? I don't understand insurance policies much and am at the stage where I have no idea what I'm covered for. Can I go to a broker who can advise me on all the different types of cover and perhaps suggest a joint policy? I want to cut my outgoings but don't want to land myself in it if something goes caput!

Household insurance often covers the consequences of a breakdown, e.g. damage caused by water escaping from a failed pipe, but not the actual breakdown itself (the repair of the pipe)Can I go to a broker who can advise me on all the different types of cover and perhaps suggest a joint policy? ..."Now to trolling as a concept. .... You shouldn't have any insurance or service policies for such things. A complete waste of money. How much are you throwing away every month?0

Although I work for British Gas I have added up what I paid in premiums against the call outs I have had for plumbing and electrical in the last 18 months and I am glad I have the cover.
I also found that I had a Gas leak when I was getting Landlords cover for my home this year as I use rooms for Foreign Language Students. I was going to be charged £180 for them to find the leak but found it was covered by my Homecare 400.
Like many others I will have had years of no call outs and could have put the money aside but I prefer peace of mind and not having to find the extra money for the repairs.
I would make sure that both covers are not covering for the same thing though as I suspect they may.Self Employed, Running my Dream Jobs0 -
