Jml luxury flame fireplace £199

Options
Hi, I think this is a relatively new JML product retails around £199.

It looks very good on the website and various mail order catalogues.

Just wonder if anyone has had any experience of the product; good or bad.

Thanks

You can download the instructions. It's a 1 or 2 kW fan heater. The hot air comes out of a grille on the top, so may cause dust marks up the wall. The glass front appears to be supported by 4 hooks and seems not to have any means of locking it into position eg with screws. That might be a concern especially if you have small children.

It also runs 40W lightbulb just to make the flame effect.

You could also look at this or this which are metal or gloss MDF fascia.

Somehow "JML" and "luxury" when considered together seem something of an oxymoron. :D

In general I'm a big fan of the flame effect electric fires, since buying one as a stopgap last year. I picked mine up second hand off ebay just to fill the fireplace temporarily and was originally planning to get a gas flame fire installed - however, I'm totally sold on the electric option now. Of course the flames aren't completely realistic, you'd only have to look closely at fire for a few seconds to know they are sort of a back projection on a screen, (the JML fire effect looks very similar to what I have) but the general effect is very good. I virtually never use the fan heater in it because the room is centrally heated, but what I love so much about the electric fire is I can have the flame effect running pretty much all the time I'm in the living room in winter for a lovely cosy feeling, but it's just costing me the same as running a light bulb and there's no worries about over-heating the room. And it just turns on and off with a switch so the fuss and bother is zero.

I would say shop around before you take the plunge though, £199 doesn't sound dramatically cheaper than other electric fires so you might find you can get something you like for the same price that you can actually look at and see working in person before you buy.

Thanks, thats exactly why I have asked for recommendations/thoughts on here !!!!!

My initial reaction was same as yours ... I don't think I will be investing my money on this version but DANDER has certainly given me food for thought and perhaps I will look around a bit longer ...

    thanks all !
