Bees in Airbrick

Don't know if this is the wrong board to post but here goes!

For the past week, I have noticed the odd bee flying into the holes in an outside airbrick.

The airbrick is situated about 2 bricks down under the damp proof course.
I am now thinking there might be a nest though I havn't seen any numbers of bees, just the odd one.

If there is a nest, could they get into the house? The floor above is concrete but the other floors in the house are wooden floorboards.

Any suggestions what to do would be helpful! (I am also aware how bees are becoming endangered but I don't want a swarm in the house.

I had this same problem some years ago. I phoned the Council who gave me a contact no for a beekeeper who very kindly came round, identified the bees (I've forgotten what he called them). Said they were totally harmless & that was it. To be honest my airbrick was right by my back door, and even though I was/am terrified of bees, they never came into the house or bothered me at all. This beekeeper was holding the bees in his hand (scary).

There are lots of different kinds of bees. Only honey bees swarm and it's unlikely that these are ones using your airbrick.
  • Probably Masonry Bees- no sting, totally harmless. Only use the nest for one year and don't return.

I've got bees coming and going from a small hole in the wall next to my patio doors. Despite the doors being open during the recent warm weather, the bees haven't been a problem at all.

Thanks everyone for your helpfull comments!
The airbrick is next to my back door too muskoka, and like everyone says, they don't seem to be harmfull.
I think I will just keep my eye on them to make sure I don't get loads going in.
    Thanks again!

I keep seeing big bumblebees coming and going into my garage. I don't know what they're up to in there because I can't find any inside. Certainly not any kind of nest. They don't seem to be doing any harm at all. Maybe just exploring. We did have some kind of hole-boring wasps a few years ago which found cracks in brickwork and enlarged them. Went away of their own accord.
