Rose name ideas please!
Help please,
I am looking for a rose for a seventieth birthday present for my mother in law (who has Altziemer's and is unable to choose her own present for him) to give.
We thought that a rose would be a romantic gift for a wife to give a husband, but is also something that we can buy for her. He loves his garden and as his wife is now in a care home, it means he will be able to plant it for her and look at it when he is sitting out.
The question is which one? I would prefer the name to have some meaning behind it but don't know where to start. It is hard buying for someone else.
Any ideas would be hugely appreciated.
Alfie

its a lovely thing to do Alfie, but you dont give any clues to names or what you would like to use etc., naturally on a forum and things are private etc.,. What about your relations name, you could google the site and se if a rose has been named for her already or chooose something like the name with the word glory or love or what ever you feel appropriate next.,0

http://www.rosenames.co.uk/ hey
here is a list of names of roses. You can also name a rose yourself which might be nice....
Feb GC: £200 Spent: £190.790 -
Difficult to know specific ones to suggest, depending on her name you may find a rose which matches that, or there are more generic titles such as Congratulations, Peace or Blessings etc.
I'd suggest looking through a catalogue to see whether anything jumps out at you.
Harkness are a well-recognised supplier http://www.roses.co.uk/
Or David Austin roses too.0 -
Thanks for the speedy reply - good point about the names, though I have googled his name and there is nothing around that refers to a plant! Her name is "Jean" so that might have something. Off to look now.
I think something along the love or marrige theme would be better suited to them, or even a birthday or 70th theme. Other than that open to anything really!

There is a Rose Finder website which you might find useful
I searched for a rose that was born in the same year as your MIL and came up with:
http://www.rosesuk.com/rose_locator/roses/1940/398_fritz_nobis.php
But I'm sure you can find one with the same name as MIL0 -
My, you lot are FAST!
Thanks for all the replies - The Country Garden website has Happy Birthday roses in pots so I will show this to my hubby and see if he agrees, I also like the Birthday Boy rose - it looks really vibrant. Thanks again to all who replied so quickly.
