Should i refund???

Hope someone can help.

I've just had an email from a buyer saying that there item hasnt arrived, she paid on the 25th may and it was posted the day after. She's only just emailed me to say that she hasnt got it but the thing is she says she was on holiday when the postman tried to deliver so she re arranged delivery to her local post office and that is when the item went missing. She has the sorry you were out card and the confirmation email from royal mail.

She's saying she has been in touch with royal mail and they are saying i have to refund her and claim from them?? She's rather rudely insisted i refund her asap. I havent got the proof of posting anymore so if i do have to refund her i cant claim it back. Is she right? Not my fault she was on holiday and rearranged  I'm a bit miffed as it was over 4 weeks ago the item was sent.

Thanks for replies :j

If she opens a dispute then she will win and get her money back, she had 45 days to do this after paying. It might be worth trying the sorting office yourself.

Try & keep her onside as you will want the card & email from her & hope that RM will accept that. It is down to the seller/sender to make a claim from RM, you should refund her & then take up the case with RM.
It's really important to keep your cert of posting.

Did you put a return address on the outside of the parcel? If so it will eventually come back to you.

But you have no choice but to refund.

It's odd that she arranged re-delivery to her local post office and the package was then lost. Perhaps you could ask her the name of that office so that you could make your own enquiries as to what happened to your package ? Maybe they still have it ?

I'd be very inclined to tell her to use the official procedure to get a refund, not to just let her have one on her say so.

Not sure what this will achieve apart from possibly annoying the buyer and making bad feedback more likely.

Without proof of delivery you will need to refund so you might as well do that graciously and hope that they leave good feedback.

They would have probably sent it back to you by now (RM send mail back after 21 days), if you had put a returns address on it.
