    How old are your children?

  • Over the age of 10 and the college course counts as full-time because it is four days a week in college plus at least one day doing a placement.

Can you not take the course part time and work for the rest of the week?

My course is only available full time unfortunately and I really want to get to uni as I am desperately trying to improve our situation.

We'll just have to find some way to manage. Thank you for your help.

How many hours is full time? It is often only two days at week.

You will be much better off if you can work at least sixteen hours a week, and then claim WTC.

It's been confirmed as 9am-3.30pm for four days a week as it is 3 days a week for the primary subjects and one day a week for numeracy and the other bits and pieces - study skills, ICT etc. Plus a whole day in placement 9-5pm which is the fifth day.

Such is life I suppose, we all just have to get on with it. Thank you again.

You can claim adult larning grant if this is your first level 2 or 3 and you don't receive out of work benefits. An acess course is level 3.

    Is distance learning another option?

I have just completed an access to HE course and it was full time. The hours were 9.30-12 for 4 days a week plus 10-3 one day a week for the study skills (which those who were working didn't bother to turn up for they just did the coursework in their own time). So some people still signed on while doing the course as it was less than 16 hours ( I was on IS/IB when I was doing it and it was ok with them also ).
