Buyer changed payment method - how are fees collected?

Recently sold an item, auction stated 'Paypal only'. Buyer contacted me to say that they were having problems accessing their Paypal account and could they pay by either cheque or cash instead. Normally I would say no but they sound very genuine and friendly so I agreed this one time.

Anyway, received a cheque (along with g'tee card number) and all seems to be OK.

My question is, since the auction was Paypal only, how do EBay collect the fees for this? Do I simply mark the item as paid (In My EBay - Mark As Paid) and will that do the job?

Ebay charge the FVF as soon as the auction finishes, it is not dependent on how or even whether you were actually paid.

For your own records you can mark th eitem as paid by changing the status on your personal ebay sold page. You don't have to is you don't want to as that info is not available to the buyer, nor are your FVFs dependent on it.

I thought that EBay might be expecting a Paypal payment, but I suppose if they have already charged FVF then this doesn't matter.

whilst ebay do own paypal, it is run as a separate company.

ebay will charge you for listing and for the final selling price, if you had used paypal, then paypal would take another chunk.
if you dont use them, then you will have saved some money....! :)

I will save some money on the Paypal fees.

Unfortunately the item only sold for £6 so it probably cost more in shoe leather to walk to the bank with the cheque! :)
