Another possibility is to buy an 'Unlocked' USB Modem for £36.09. That way you won't be locked to any network. Though you may need to download and save the individual Mobile Connection software for each likely network SIM. In addition, it will mean that you also have the opportunity to use it for Internet whilst abroad, using a local SIM.
The MiFi(Huawei E5830) mentioned by Aiadi is also available unlocked for use with any network for £78.
This connects to the mobile broadband network and sends out a wireless signal so you can connect wirelessly as you would at home, but doesn't need mains power other than for charging the battery.
Another cheaper possibility is a fixed 3G Router for around £35. Again this works in much the same way as your router at home, working off the mains electricity.0 -

Agreed, unlocked usb modems at £36.09, MiFi's at £78 and 3G routers at £38 are all beyond my scope, financially if not technically...I've found an 02 dongle for £19.99 which I think will do
Oh, and I'm not a 'silver' surfer, never have been and never will be. Two little bottles in a box make in Nice'n'Easy to ensure that
Thanks for all your help and advice

I hope O2 has FULL 3G coverage where you intend to use it. If you ever need to take that modem abroad, it only costs £6 to £7 to unlock it for use with other SIMs.0

I've checked the coverage on the 02 site Donnie and says full coverage, even shows all the little bars fully coloured in
.
As for going abroad, we'll cross that bridge (sic) when we come to it...0
