    And what happens when they email them to their friends who dont have PS?

    You export them out into a more portable format.

    Picasa is good for managing your photos. It handles psd and can export files to jpeg at certain sizes, ideal for emailing.

    PNG is probably more compatible these days.

    PNG is probably more compatible these days.
    Yes, PNG would also be good. On the plus side PNG files are typically a bit smaller than TIFF, on the minus side they generally take a bit longer to load/save.
