There has been topics about how XP SP3 download caused some problems when released. As a rule i don't download until a few weeks/months have gone by to allow any bugs to be identified and solved. As it happens i am happy with SP2 and regularly download updates for it.
Have come across this
http://www.computeractive.co.uk/computeractive/news/2265264/microsoft-alerts-xp-vista-users
basically microsoft from july 13 will cease support for XP SP1 and SP2. They will only support SP3.
Was wondering if it is okay now to upgrade to SP3?
If so then my laptop has AMD processor. There was a conflict issue and one has to download a seperate file. Is that still the case now?
If i need that file where can i find it?
Any advice will be gratefully apreciated.
Thanks in advance

backup with disk imaging software, then if it goes wrong (unlikely), you can recover everything easily!!

It might make sense to wait, but SP3 is out for a couple of years now. You should have updated ages ago.0 -
All support for Windows XP SP2 ends in the next few weeks so no more security updates. There hasn't been a reason not to do it for many many months.0

I think you'll be safe, most bugs would of been worked out after 2 years0

Am now in the process of downloading SP3. Have downloaded and installed SP3 and am now checking for any updates for SP3. Will install that now as well.
My harddrive is getting full. Have got rid of unwanted programs and files etc. Will SP3 get rid of unwanted software for SP1 and 2 or do i have to preform a different operation?Problem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problems

No. It replaces SP2 versions of files. Download and install CCleaner and run it. Whilst in CCleaner, click on the Tools button, select System Restore then delete all the points there. It won't allow you to delete the latest one.0 -
Happy to say the laptop is running smoothly on SP3. There was no need to use the AMD patch.Problem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problems
