Banking & Diredct debits

My sister has an onlne bank account with HSBC, she has just checked her account and found a "NEW DD" has been set up without her autorisation, and £9.50 has been taken from her account.
The name ofthe recipient is : CVRPLAN 5001246235.
She has contacted the bank advising them and cancelled the Direct Debit.
Does anyone else know of this scam ?

Why should being aged 77 mean one is a bit past enjoying watching movies?
  • It's not necessarily a scam, it could be a keying error by the recipient so the direct debit was attached to the wrong account - the bank doesn't require any evidentary proof that the account holder authorised the mandate, and so just processes it anyway. Be sure to watch the account carefully in case it happens again.
