Sky light ideas and help.

In our kitchen we have an old perspex sky light (non opening and useless heat insulation) that desperately needs replacing. The flat roof has a raised bit with a slight angle. I have looked at the cost of opening windows for the sky light but they are looking to cost over 1k. The hole is 1mx1m.
My brainwave is to fix really thick poly conservatory roofing on with a conservatory roof window in the middle with a bar extension. Would that be possible? If so, what would I need to buy and how would it fix to be fully water and wind tight?
Are there any other ideas that would be cost effective?
Thankyou.

cost efective?
get a free DG unit off freecycle and use that. use lots of silicone sealer/mastic to seal the join to the roof.
all you need to do then is to devise some form of window catch operated with say a pole.
like the old school windows.
or one of these?

I have looked and asked a few time on freecycle. Not sure about the caravan roof idea, will look into it.0

Lol, I will genuinely look into it. The one on the site I looked at was very small and would probably be harder work and cost than poly window.0

a small DG window is only about 100 quid at wickes.
a bit cheaper than a 1 grand skylight.Get some gorm.0 -
It's not a small window, it's 1metre x 1 metre.0

OOOh, just had a look and they are cheap aren't they? lol. Now, how would that be fixed in a sloping raised hole in the roof?0

Thinking about it the window thing could possibly be dangerous. We have a velux window (well, cheap copy) and that is fixed under tiles and very secure. I can't imagine how a normal window could be fixed in such a way that it wouldn't fall in? I am female by the way, so that might explain it!!0
