Incapacity Benefit /Disability Living Allowance

Hello Everyone,
I would like to ask whether I am obliged to inform the DWP that I have(because of the death of my partner) received insurance payouts on my mortgage and other policies and whether this would affect my benefits.
Obviously, I want to do the right thing, but equally I don't want to open a can of worms unnecessarily.
Thanks very much.

IB and DLA are non means tested so I don't think so. If you receive means tested benefits then yes you must declare it.

    CC debt at 8/7/13 - £12,186.17
    Barclaycard £11,027.58
    Halifax £1,158.59
5 year plan to live unsecured debt free and move home
  • Hello Hippychick,
Thank you for your reply. IB and DLA just about cover my benefits,so hopefully 'nothing to declare'
    Best wishes,

  • Do you claim council tax benefit or interest payments for your mortgage as these would be means tested.

    Im sorry for your loss.
I'd rather regret the things I've done than regret the things I haven't done.

Your DLA is unaffected. As for your IB, it depends on how you are paid. If you are purely paid by IB (Conts based, as in paid enough Class 1 or 2 stamps in the past) it will have no affect. However, if you are claiming Incap ben but are paid by Income support then you need to declare it. Really don't worry about 'opening a can of worms', call your local BDC and update them, then you have nothing to worry about. Alll the best. Dubs.

    Hi Breast Cancer Survivor,
Firstly, thank you for your kind comment.
With regard to benefits, I do not claim anything other than IB & DLA so hopefully I should be alright.
