Me and the mrs were looking at cars, found a 55 plate bmw 520d m sport in Glasgow, in generally nice condition except for a cracked windscreen and a very shoddy respray of the bootlid with runs and clearcoat flaking neither of which were mentioned whenI phoned and asked about the condition, tried to haggle but the salesman's reply was "my boss will go mental if he hears you picking faults in the car, he hates people who notices defects in his cars" most he would offer was £100 off. Mrs fell in love with the car so I paid the deposit and arranged to collect after the mot. Sorted out transport, insurance etc and went to collect it, no phone call to tell me there was any problem and when I got there he said it failed the mot on a rear suspension bush, and he wouldn't sell me the car unless I paid £100 to get it fixed , wouldn't let me see the mot fail certificate though. Funny that since it was £100 he knocked off for the cracked windscreen and flaky bootlid eh? Absolutely refused to budge at all and only refunded my deposit, wouldn't cover any of the expenses I incurred through this waste of time and effort.
Be aware of this if your looking at cars in glasgow.
No doubt a few moaners would just be saying it's just £100 on an expensive car but if this is what they are like before I've parted with my money what will they be like if I have a fault in the warrenty period? After all your not allowed to notice any defects in their cars. Ripped the joy out of what should have been an enjoyable day buying a nice motor after working 80 hour weeks and years of driving £500 cars.
Getting fed up now, driven a total of 700 miles looking at at a few 520d m sports and only finding shoddy amateur paintjobs or electrical faults. Can we get lieing used car dealers reclassified as vermin so we can exterminate them?

Sounds very much like the boss is a dodgy piece of work if one of his minions has to go to the effort of making up the failed MOT story, probably best you didn't buy the car.
One things for certain if I was selling the buyer would know about those issues before they turned up. I don't see any point in hiding things from potential buyers (especially bad paint jobs and cracked windscreens which they'll instantly see), and I am sure listing actual faults comes across as being more genuine and honest.0 -
Aye, we were even happy with the car with those faults on it, it was the best we had seen, and there was no signs of accident damage it just looked like a cheap sprayjob to fix a scratched boot at the end of a lease. They should have been aware of the cracked screen as it was anadvisory on last years mot. Would have went away happy with it if they hadn't pulled that stunt, over a lousy £100 as well.
Think we might wait a couple of months to save an extra few grand and head to the main dealers as this trekking around the country on false promises is getting tiring.0 -
TBH I'd have walked away at your first point, so think yourself lucky that you didn't need to actually buy it
Dealer I'm buying my next car from admitted that it needs new rear bushes and brake pads/discs and that they're doing it before I pick the car up.....0 -
i would have walked seeing a dodgy respray,
theres loads of these about although the 520d is not the best (underpowered)
or you could go for an older shape 2003 530d sport far better car as most E60 owners would agree0 -
In short, you saw a dog, it looked like a dog but unlike everyone else in the country you then deliberately bought it. And having found it is exactly what it looked like on the forecourt, you're now complaining.
There are tons and tons and tons of good 520 M-Sports around. I suspect the problem lies more with what you've got to spend. I suspect you're not being realistic about the price a decent one will fetch. If you've got banger money, you're only going to find bangers.0 -

Where are these tons of good 520d m sports you refer to? not in scotland. I went to the local franchised BMW main dealer this morning to look at a £17k 56 plater that had the whole side painted in a half arsed manner, with laquer overspray on the door seals and tryes and sanding scratches in the basecoat. I hardly think it's unrealistic expectations to expect a car of less than 5 years old and 5 figure price to be at least painted properly if it has had a repair.0 -
I know exactly where you're coming from mate, I'll give you one word of advice....patience
I spent months (& £'s) looking at cars that were nothing like they were described, even after I'd asked before I drove the god knows how many miles to see them!
This also included a couple of main dealers.
Admittedly I wasn't looking in the price range you are but even so a bit of honesty could have saved a fortune in time & money.
I eventually found one from a private seller who was a real petrolhead (sorry) & had treated it like his baby with reciepts for everything, even new wiper blades... took a while but they are out thereAlways try to be at least half the person your dog thinks you are!0 -
Aye the right car will turn up eventually, just sick of liars.
520d is more than powerful enough for the mrs, it's going to be her who drives it mostly. although the figures dont really show it on paper there is a big real world difference in fuel costs between the 4 and 6 cylinder models. Had a loan of an e39 530d for a couple of weeks and it wasn't much quicker than the e60 520d in real world round the doors, sticking to speed limits driving, you dont need instant acceleation at any speed in any gear, unless your one of those bellends who likes to close up a gap when someone trys to change lane.0 -
Was this Killermont? Really surprised if they had a badly presented one on the forecourt and the asking for extra sounds like the boss was away and someone was chancing their arm.0

Do you mean "Killermont Motor Company" on Maryhill Road rather than "Killetmont"?0
