a question about crumbles

this has prob... been asked and answered in previous posts.... so sorry if i am repeating a question....
now that i have commited my self to the grocery challenge... i am like a woman possessed in trying to use everything in the cupboards and freezer before i go shopping....
so...... can i use tinned peaches in a crumble....
as peach crumble does sound very yummy
also would it be best to use the cheap ones in syrup....
or the ones in fruit juice....as if i can use the cheap ones in syrup.. stores own basic ones... this would work out a very cheap pudding.....
as i normally just make.. apple crumble... but buying cooking apples is working out expensive now... if i am going to try and stick to my £50. a week for all the gang mentioned in sig....
i have asked on freecycle ( cheeky i know ) if anyone has apple or pear trees and if they dont use the fruit could i have some... but i have offered to swop rhuburb plants.. so dont feel so bad asking...

Yes you can use them- any kind will do or tinned pears for a change.0

AFAIK you can make crumble with any sort of fruit at all. I don't like peaches so I've never tried specifically with them, but I'm sure it would be delicious!
Also, you could try cobbler, or pie. Both cheap and cheerful and yummy puddings!
Try finding a PYO for apples. They are in season now and literally dropping off the trees. Also, if you go blackberrying, keep an eagle eye out for wild apple trees as well.0 -
I have used them in a crumble before and they worked fine. It's best to chop them up a bit and if you're using the ones that have been in syrup then you won't need to add any sugar to the fruit.

I have used tinned peaches and put them with tinned apricots which makes it really yummy. Also try adding a little porridge oats and less flour for extra fibre and crunchier topping. Now where's the Birds custard......0

Yes you can freeze crumble. Do it before cooking.
What I like to do (sorry if I'm repeating myself) is freeze crumble mix in a bag. Then it's always ready to sprinkle on that gift of plums from my mum's tree or the blackberries I've picked.
I like tinned peaches in crumbles tooJust a thought, but what about peach and pineapple crumble with some coconut in the crumble mix.I like bananas in crumble too - apple, banana and mincemeat is a good one for Christmas.

Yep sounds good!
I use a really simple crumble topping my nan taught me which is even easier than standard flour rubbed in crumble.
4oz oats
3oz butter/spread/marg thing
2oz sugar
Melt together and pour over the top of the fruit before cooking as normal.
Much better than getting your fingers dirty rubbing it in and it is always crispy. Im never going back!0 -

i have tins of pineapples as well.....and peaches.....
also that is a good idea about the crumble mix bagged in the freezer... but i have only a small freezer... fridge type one... so... got to watch the space... until i can afford or get given a chest freezerWork to live= not live to work0
