Hi
Can anyone help with this?
I bought a fridge at comet last year july 17th. The fridge broke down on friday 11th june. Called comet the following day saturday. Engineer came on Tuesday 15th june and said that the fridge is completely dead and would be replaced in maximum 10 days. It turned out that the broken part (compressor?) will be changed. Another engineer came today (10 days later) and said that none only the compressor? needed to be replaced, there is no power coming out from somewhere? even thought the light is on?
He rang comet again to order another part which is scheduled to be replaced on Monday 5th July.
We bouught this fridge for £429 to be told by the first engineer that it is rubbish because hotpoint no longer exists and that Indesit bought the mark. We are absolutely upset. I have 3 children (5, 3 and just under 1 year old) and I have to cook every single day because we cannot put any food in the fridge. I have to go to the shop at least 4 times a week, nothing last long without being in a fridge. The children are on mainly toasts in the morning as we cannot store milk. It has been very difficult and costly for the past 2 weeks. Now we have to wait another 10 days.
Could anyone tell what are my rights in this matter. Should not comet provide another fridge whilst we are waiting? Why the fridge is not replaced rather than fixed, especially as the fridge is under 1 year and that the replacement part is not under warrant.
Please, please, please anybody tell me what we should be doing as we cannot afford to buy another fridge soon. Warranty is finishing on 17th July.
thanks

We had the same issue, with Currys though but I guess comet will be the same.
You won't get a new fridge freezer, I wrote to trading standards when ours went kuput after 8 months and we were told the chances of getting a replacement were nigh on impossible. It was.
Fridge was repaired after a month, it then broke down again 5 months later.
We bought a Bosch.
I suggest buying a cheap second hand fridge for now, or look on the freecycle boards as someone might have an old fridge going spare until you have funds to buy a replacement.0 -

Hi Rosaline,
My name’s Matt and I’m from Comet.
I was disappointed to learn of the problems that you are experiencing with your Hotpoint fridge freezer.
When a customer experiences a problem with an appliance, our normal procedure is to arrange for our engineer to complete an inspection in order to determine the nature of the problem. If we are able to complete a repair then we would look at doing this within a reasonable amount of time. Unfortunately, we do not provide loan appliances for the period of the repair being completed.
I am however, concerned at the problems you have already incurred with this repair would like to look into this further for you therefore, if you could please email me direct with your purchase and any job details you may have, so that I can address this matter as quickly as possible.

You will need to register a few details with us to be able to send your e-mail in.
