do they know?

I was surprised to find out that housing benefit in the council where I am now living is being paid from the week after you applied. I thought I were going to be paid from the date I started to rent, that was how it was working in the council I lived in before.

my question is for a friend, she started to work two weeks ago, and she now realized that she forgot to tell the housing benefit people that she started to work. She will be off on Tuesday so she will go there then.
Will they already know that she have start to work? have the jobcentre told them?

Another friend told her to wait a bit to tell them since she will have some trouble paying her rent but she said that she would never do that.

The JCP can inform HB when a claimant no longer gets JSA.

They will be notified if she has closed her JSA claim, however it is up to her to ensure that she is receiving her correct entitlement so she needs to advise them herself.

she needs to notify them asap and take in contract of employment to show new income
longer you wait the more arrears will build up that she will need to pay
  • Also look to see if they qualify for run on

Worth arguing the toss with the council on this as it applies for both LHA & CT. It can really make a difference whilst waiting for the 1st pay packet to role in as not having to worry about being unable to pay the rent can mean they focus on the job more.

Part of the Furniture 1,000 Posts Combo Breaker I've been Money Tipped!
I suggest she either e-mails them asap and keeps a copy, or even pops a letter through the door.
It's very poor advice to wait, because she could be committing a criminal offence if she continues to receive money to which she is not entitled. She might have an entitlement to run on, in which case problem solved!

You cant really argue about it. Theres a set criteria, if you don't meet it you can't have it!

They have to be on a "qualifying benefit" for 26 weeks with no gaps and the work has to be expected to last 5 weeks or more.

JCP will (probably) tell the LA at some point, but it is your friend's responsibility to tell the LA, so she should not assume that JCP will. She may be entitled to run-on, and depending on her income, she may still be entitled to some HB and or CTB - the LA should advise if she asks.
