Just had my car insurance renew, compared it with last year cheapest it has actually gone up £60 :( even I currently holding 5 Years of NCD and over 25 years old:(

    I mean what gives!

I thought more NCD gives a better discount ?

anyone had similar problem with their insurance?

Shop around, but don't be surprised if you end up paying more.

Remember if you can find a similar price through another insurer, check to see if they offer any form of online cashback through Quidco etc, which may soften the blow of an increase.

I was insured with Direct Line @ £400 for a Ford Fiesta 1.1. My renewal was for £800, despite turning 25, with 4 years NCD, and no previous claims / accidents.

Spoke to their loyalty / retentions dept, who said they've made massive losses due to weather, claims, fraud etc, and therefore prices have gone up.

Looking across the board I'm seeing quotes ranging from £200 - £300 more than last year through to double, or even triple, last year's prices.

Best I ended up getting was £470 less £60 cashback - £410, and I changed breakdown provider to save £80/year, so I'm trying to take the positives from it :)

My advice - if you can get a good price now, go for it. I can't see it coming down, and it could even go up.

Well, I was astonished to receive this year's renewal letter from Swinton.

Last year's policy was £600ish fully comp with 1 year's NCB (Despite being 37 I have only had company cars prior to this)

This year's quote was £900+ TPFT (Value of car has dropped to around £1000) with an additional year's NCB

They said that I am not able to renew with the existing insurer, but no reason is given.

Go Compare puts it at around £500 from someone else so I will obviously be making the switch.

Rang Swinton to make sure that they had not made a mistake and was told that it would be more expensive to insure my car TPF&T than Fully Comp.... No explanation as to why though.....

The girl then asked me what I had been quoted elsewhere, so I said under £500, to which she replied "Let me see if I can match that" to which I was a little bit surprised seeing as their letter of a few days ago had said £900+!

When she came back on the phone she said "Good news, I can bring it down to £880, Fully Comp" To which I replied, "Well, that's hardly good news for me, is it? A £300 increase?"

Have just signed up with More Than for £460 online, hopefully with Quidco cashback as well.

Yes, I noticed that on the letter, but the original figure they had quoted was actually £988 in total.

That is before we even looked at paying by instalments.....!

how far in advance will your current insurer give you a renewal quote?

ive got 2 months to go looking at all the comparison sites its not looking good an extra 100+ up to 1000! on last years price-just wondering what my current insurer would do?

i had a similar problem last month before my renewal came through cheapest quote was just over £1000  I am 26 1.4 fiesta 5 years ncb no convictions etc 8000 miles last year it was £481 which I know was cheap as was by quinn
for once my renewal was cheapest £655 offered by quinn still an increase though but I take that to be due to price rises with eveyone

the only place I can find cheaper than quinn is first direct as they are offering to beat any renewal quote by 10% everyone one else was over the £1000

I am just happy now to get the renewal and it not be quite as much!
