Hi, Not sure if this is a warning.
My husband had a phone call tonight from someone who asked if he was having trouble with his computer. He was asked a few questions and then realised it was my computer. He gave the phone to me, i was asked if i had windows XP and if i was having any problems, I said "no more than usual". i was being very cagey.
The guy asked me to switch my computer on, which i did, he then asked me to right click on My Computer then go into manage, which i did, he then asked me to go into event viewer and then service and applications, which i did.
All the time he was telling me that he could help sort out my computer problems. I asked how much and he said there was no charge!!! He said he was working for a company called care4windows who i have never heard of and have never had any dealings with, but they were a service provider? They have a web site which looks real.
This is when i really started to get worried as he asked me to let his Technical guy remote attach to my computer, i said no striaght away, and ended the call.
I then tried to contact Sky my provider, who were very unhelpful. I had finished speaking to sky and this other guy tried 4+ times to contact me, which i now decided to ignore, he even left a message asking me to pick the phone up.
If this is a scam, who and how do i contact to let people know!
Having read the other thread in this section, the guy was Indian and everything he suggested in those postings was the same, except that he's calling from Durham now and his name was Henry Watson !!!! and the Company was care4windows.
If anyone has had anything similar i would like to know.
Thanks for your help.

Yes it is a scam.
They just pick random people I think!
They can access anything on your computer if you allow them and they may clean up some parts of your computer and ask you to pay for their services.0 -
Today I had I phone call from care4windows claiming a response from an error report I have sent to microsoft ?? they said my computer was very badly infected, and would be very dangerous to use online banking. I went along with this for a short time but I was very sceptical. After finishing the call the guy >> Harry Watson also Heney Watson phoned again from an international phone (my caller display) and was very pushy for me to continue but I then ended the call. After reading the 2 posts I think I was justyfied. Can anyone else help as I feel my computer is fairly safe and I do run Prevex3.0

Blimey - I don't even let family near my laptop so I certainly wouldn't let some bloke who just happens to phone me anywhere near it .................
....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

No doubt theyd put a few nasties on there set to activate a little later encouraging you to call back after your "pleasant" free service.Back by no demand whatsoever.0

Don't want to panic anyone but...
If they "remotely connected" to your computer they could be up to all sorts! Including stealing your personal data, using your cc details to order goods etc"Isn't it enough to see that a garden is beautiful without having to believe that there are fairies at the bottom of it too?" This scam was reported in the papers recently, here is a google return on it. http://www.google.co.uk/#hl=en&source=hp&q=microsoft+scam+malware&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&oq=&gs_rfai=&fp=4da16c650c5b86c8
I seem to remember they offer to resolve the problems in your event viewer (There are none, your event viewer is supposed to look like that) for upwards of £1000 -
I have been bombarded with calls during the last two days from people who say they are from this company. I have tried phoning care4windows and been told that it is nothing to do with them at all. I haven't let them do anything at my computer but the constant calls are annoying.0
