Double Waste Pipe?

After living in a bomb site of a kitchen for 5 years I've returned from holiday to find that my lovely brother has totally re-done it and it's all brand spanking new!
I've bought a new washing machine and ordered a dishwasher (posh huh?) but there is only one waste pipe that, at the moment, has the washing machine pipe poked in it............ do I just cram the dishwasher pipe in it too? or will I have to adapt it in some way to allow both machines to discharge through it?

The proper way of doing it is to have 2 waste pipes.
Is one of them going next to your sink? Not Again0 -
Pop down Bodge & Quit (preferably with the waste pipe bit off the sink) and buy a new one with 2 "spouts" to replace the one under your sink with 1 "spout" cheap as chips they are.Unless it is damaged or discontinued - ignore any discount of over 25%0

You might have to get a telescopic one & perhaps adjust the waste pipe also. Not Again0 -
try not to use the two items at once. sometimes those traps can back feed.Get some gorm.0

When you change the trap the other could likely be a different size. So the bottom of the sink (waste) & the other end where the trap attaches to (waste pipe) might not match up. If you buy a telescopic one you can adjust the height so you have room to manoeuvre on the height.
Ormus is right. If you have more than one appliance (sink, dishwasher & washing machine) going into one waste pipe (at any point) it can stop the flow of water & even flood back up the pipe into the sink or even out of the top of the pipe behind your washing machine. That is why its always best to fit one pipe for each appliance where possible. Not Again0 -
Yes use two wastes as to have two machines pumping simultaneously into a single waste is risky if you bodge it with various bits and pieces. Apart from a flooding risk theres also syphonage to consider.
So - normally you'd put the dishwasher into the sink trap with its hose on the spigot - dont forget the jubilee clip!!
Use one of these for the WM. Join them together after the traps but before the pipe goes out of the wall. That might just mean some rejigging of the pipework and a lower exit point than you currently have.
Alternatively if you want to try and use the existing waste pipe as it goes through the wall use a McAlpine WM11 P Trap with two MA15 Spigots. You'll need to go to a plumbers merchant though. Doubt you'll get one in the sheds.
