Rights over faulty freeview box

Hi

Bit of advice please. My elderly neighbour has just been round as she's having a problem with her set top box.
She had a local company supply one to her and they charged her £70.00 for this. This was 6 months ago. It has not worked properly since then so my hubby just went round to look at it for her. Whilst he was there she rang the man concerned and he spoke to my hubby and was very abusive and said my hubby didn't know what he was talking about and he fits 150 of these each week.
My neighbour has said she never wanted this box in the first place as she wanted a freeview plus box.. he has supplied a basic set top box.
He has now agreed to come next week and collect the box and refund the money.
If she still has hassles, what are her rights on this please.
Thanks

    Hi,

Is the box not working? Or is that she can not get many channels? Because we can not get many channels, so have sky.

    Hi Mark
The box is faulty as it freezes, it goes back to its main set up page a lot and you literally have to switch off and switch on again at mains.

I would not worry about it unless he goes back on his decision to offer a refund

Don't they all do that sometimes? In my case about once a month or so.

    Wow!!

Let's say he works a seven day week.

That's an average of 21 boxes fitted every day.

Even if he works a ten hour day, that's fitting one box about every half hour.

Not really surprising that some installations are, shall we say, 'less than perfect', is it?

Well If he as i suspect just fitting the box its a ten min job maybe half an hour if the cable needs fiddling with. Let see you can get a cheap box for a tenner. So that £60 for half an hours work not bad at all.

Who was the "local company"? They sound pretty dodgy, especially if they supplied a freeview box rather than a freeview + box.

Was the box itself charged at £70 or was that the price with installation?

The company is called Morgan's of Llanidloes, Powys. He charged £70 to supply and fit box. No cable work required. He didn't even check the aerial. He was there just 10 mins...
The box he supplied can be bought for £30.00 (looked up on net).
Going to make sure either myself of hubby is there with her when he turns up to collect in case of any hassle.

She has the right to shop around and realise that freeview boxes can be picked up for less than 20 quid in the shops and for around 2 quid at a bootfair.

Next time she wants to buy a peice of electronic machinery let me know, I have a cassette recorder I can sell her for 50 quid, or a CD player for 100 quid :rotfl:

To be fair the chap did come out and fit it and as the lady was elderly i guess she didn't have confidence in fitting it herself so the £70 does seem reasonable IMO
