Turning router into wifi??

We're off to Florida in a couple of weeks and the villa we're staying in has internet access, when I asked the owner if it was wifi he said no but there is an ethernet cable there to use.

My son has just bought an ipad and was planning on taking it on holiday and is not going to be impressed if he can't use internet on it!!

Is there something I can buy that I can plug into the router (I'm assuming with the ethernet cable) that will then give us wifi so that the ipad and ipod touch's will connect to the internet?

Thanks.

You'd need to buy a wireless access point with a US mains plug. And take along a laptop to configure it. Rather too much like hard work, surely.

Just tell your son that he is having a holiday in a backward country that doesn't have wifi, and just sit back and enjoy it!

    Cheers!!

Would this work with an American plug adaptor? It seems fairly straightforward (but as you've probably guessed I'm not overly techy) as you apparently just plug it in and off you go!

Only if the Netgear mains adapter will handle 110V AC and 60 Hz!

Hmmm. Not in my experience. I'd suggest you try it in the UK first, on a setup as close as you can get to your holiday mansion...

If you are taking a laptop then just turn it (your laptop) into a wifi hub without the need for a router or other devices:

or just google along these lines (use laptop as wireless router or wifi hub) if your OS is not XP.
Do I want it? ......Do I need it? ......What would happen if I don't buy it??????

Get a wireless access point or router that doesn't work on low voltage via an adapter - ie the mains lead plugs straight in the back.

Less than £20 will get you one.

Almost without exception, these will be automatic dual voltage 110/240 and will work in USA just with a travel adapter.

We did this when we went to OH's dad's house in Canada - took them a load of spare network stuff and left it there permanently, because it costs a lot more in Canada.

Thanks everyone - son has decided that he will just pick up an at&t sim for his ipad and load it with credit to use while we're there.
