Newly unemployed

Hi,

I've just been made redundant from a job I was in for 18 months, I'm married with 2 children in full time education, my wife works 30 hrs a week and I have no savings.

What benefits would I be entitled to?

Thanks

Andy

If you are in full time education it could be a difficult one..

Have you finished for this year now?
Are you going back next year?

Be careful, the Job Centre made it very difficult for me when I said I went to college 1 day a week.

    Best of luck

    lol - sorry :o

First things first, you need to ring the job centre and make a claim and an appointment to sign on.

Best getting it done asap as all claims will be backdated to the date you first signed on.

I got made redundant 6 weeks ago, I know how you feel. Chin up.

What were you doing prior to your current job?

Do you have a mortgage or rent?
    Gone ... or have I?

Sorry, I meant how long were you working? Assuming you have paid sufficient NI Conts over the tax years 07/08 and 08/09, you will qualify for CB JSA. Depending on how much your wife earns, you may also qualify for Council Tax Benefit and increased Tax Credits. When contacting Tax Credits, ask them to do an assessment based on the current year, not last year.

He was in the job for 18 months.. Is it 2 years for contribution based?

Eighteen months would only cover one financial year and three months of the preceding financial year, which is what is relevant here. However, he may still have paid sufficient Conts.
