Help Design a Large Garden

Hello everyone

We have just finsihed renovating our new house and are now ready to start thinking about the garden.

It is 150ft x 33ft with stream at the end where the ducks swim up and down and come into the garden, they are so cute.

Currently there are 2 old Apple Trees at back of garden near stream and we have planted a couple of fruit trees ourselves and put up a shed.

I would like to break it into areas perhaps for

Growing Vegetables
Fish Pond perhaps
Rockery
Patio Area
BBQ Area

There is a fence on one side of garden and bush border on the right.

We also knocked down a willow tree so have all the wood from that so was thinking of treating it and using it to make a path.

There is a Sunroom that we are going to take out and replace with a glass canopy that can be turned into a conservatory.

I can post a picture if this would help.

I am new to gardening so would love some ideas. As it is quite a large area, we will probably do it in stages.

Thanks for any suggestions you can give me.

Hiya :) I have quite a lot of garden space but in a funny shape so the way I did it was to use word and draw out shapes to sort out my garden into specific areas. I now have a pergola which houses all my fruit, a greenhouse alongside the patio and the shed at the bottom of the garden. I am also getting a cut flower bed put in and some raised beds at the end of the garden. I have a large amount of raised beds at the side of the garden, and grow an arch with roses, honeysuckle, jasmine and passionflower.
Designing the garden using word really helped me get my priorities sorted and helped make it more uniform. Good luck with your garden!

I can give you the name of some good qualified garden designers but not at all MSE I am afraid.

There is a lot more to garden design than meets the eye.
  • Post a picture if you can, it sounds lovely and we all like to have a nosey at each others gardens :)

Wow sounds amazing! The only thing with Willow is that it roots very easily. You might find your path sprouting come spring!
However it does mean you can do cool stuff like this

Any kids or grandkids who'd appreciate that?! TBH I'd love one of those myself! I'd take the radio in and read and nap on a summer's day. Ahhh.

    Hi ya

I'll post a picture of it tomorrow, it is a great size garden to play with and you can hear all the birds, woodpecker when your sitting out there. The ducks even sit out or walk along the fence. We had a female duck nesting a couple of months ago, they hatched while we were on holiday but duckings have not been seen since Ahhhh

Off to Bon Jovi concert now Woo Hoo.

I'll post pictures in the morning

    HI

We have left the stump and treated it to kill the roots. I was thinking of maybe making it into a table top or BBQ area. I'll post pictures tomorrow.

There are no kids just a very old cat (16+). I also have to secure the back as I don't want him going for a swim LOL.

    cheers
