Last year some gentlemen from The West Yorkshire Fire Brigade came to my house to do a fire safety check and fitted some smoke alarms.
Well yesterday evening i came home from work and cooked a burger and i always cook them on a very low light. When the burger was cooked i inadvertently put the frying pan back down on the lit low light.
Well a short time later i heard this strange beeping noise, i turned down the TV to try and find out where the noise was coming from and then i realised it was the smoke alarm at the top of the stairs down to my kitchen.
The frying pan had been cooking which fortunately had little fat in so didn't set on fire but the smoke was thick and awful. Ten minutes with the outside door open and the smoke had cleared.
I dread to think what could have happened had that smoke alarm not been fitted. I am still here and so is my house all without having to dial 999.
I would implore people to get a smoke alarm fitted if you have not already done so. You just forget about them when they are there but they work and look after you.
Please get a smoke alarm fitted.

Glad to here you are ok and will back up your statement that people should have them and add dont forget you should test them often or at least once a year and change batteries every year if needed or not.Approach her; adore her. Behold her; worship her. Caress her; indulge her. Kiss her; pleasure her. Kneel to her; lavish her. Assert to her; let her guide you. Obey her as you know how; Surrender is so wonderful!
