Husband made redundant and I'm on Maternity leave

Hi there, just after a bit of advice really.
The company my Husband works for have finally given up the ghost and are folding. My husband was today given a month's paid notice which he doesn't have to work and will receive a weeks pay as redundancy. This will be received at the end of next month. I am currently on Maternity leave as we had our second child 3 weeks ago. I am receiving SMP for the part-time hours i worked.
We are obviously hopeful that Hubby will get another job quickly but trying to plan ahead just in case. When will i have to notify tax credits?Although our circumstances have changed as of today, he is still "employed" with the company until the end of July so should i call then or now?i don't want an overpayment to add to things!
Also does anyone know if we will be entitled to anything, i don't think my hubby could sign on JSA as I work (though on mat leave).
It's all complicated and has really not come at the best time what with our little one just arriving so any advice would be great.
Thanks for reading

Far from an expert on this.
But applying common sense, I would think that although he can't claim JSA, other benefits would be available if he were not to get a job by the time his employment officially ended. SMA is far from huge so, i would suspect you would qualify for working tax credits and what not.
Hopefully this is all acedemic as I am sure your OH will find a new job in the next five weeks anyway!I am a NumptyYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a Numpty, so you need to take my word for it. oh and try entitledto.co.uk
should give all the benefits you would be entitled to.I am a NumptyYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a Numpty, so you need to take my word for it. Any posts on here are for information and discussion purposes only and shouldn't be seen as good advice.0 -
drrat -thanks for your reply, i know he's already started looking for work but I'm just fretting about how we'll manage with our two little ones if he doesn't. The benefits system seems to be a bit of a minefield to me although i know of plenty who find it quite easy to play and usually end up better off than we did when hubby worked! I just hope he finds something else soon for his own self-esteem as much as anything.0

as per my second post, that site is very useful for listing the benefits you may be entitled to and amount you might get.
Just plug in your situation and your current income and it will churn out the value of any benefits you would be entitled to.I am a NumptyYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a Numpty, so you need to take my word for it. Congratulations on your little bundle of joy. :T
I really feel for you both what a time for this to happen.
I'm sorry I can't offer any advice but I hope your oh finds a new job quickly.I'd rather regret the things I've done than regret the things I haven't done.

BCS - he really is just that a little bundle of joy and his 3 year old sister is simply besotted! am making the most of it now of course while he can't pinch her toys and she isn't full of hormones!!Yes timing is hideous but at least Hubby can't spend a little more time with his little ones now which is a blessing in disguise.0

Send hubby down to the JCP, depending on when he was worked and paid NI in the last couple of years he may get contributions JSA. Could even get Income based depending on what your getting as maternity pay.
You should let tax credits know straight away and give them the date he is paid up to, means they may have sorted out your claim by the time his notice and redundacy has ran out.0 -
It will all work out.. try not to worry x
Get his CV sorted, get online and fire off as many applications as he can. I personally think the DirectGov site is good for job hunting, and also Reed Recruitment seems okay, both of these usually just require you to send a CV by email, so you can get lots sent in one night
Get him to ring the job centre helpline and at least get a claim lodged and go from there, worth a try.9/70lbs to lose0 -
Get him to sign up to angencies. Some are temporary; but it's better than nothing.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

Virtual sealed pot #178 £80.250
