Just a rant!
Went to curry's last weekend and spent a good hour in there buying a dishwasher and a fridge for our new house. Of course we did the MSE thing of taking every warrantly going to haggle the discount and then we fully intended to cancel that as soon as poss to get the refund on it.
Once we'd made our selection the sales assistant was very shady about delivery details. As we both work during the week we insisted on going through the delivery with a fine tooth comb.
The assistant first of all said "oh I've booked it for the 31st" to which we pointed out that we didn't want, and one of us would make sure we're at home for the 1st.
Then we asked what the procedure is with calling in the morning etc and he said "oh, they'll probably phone you in the morning". We asked him to take our mobile number down and he scrawled it on a post it note and said he'd re-do the form later.
Tired and hungry an hour later we left the store confident that after all the dto-ing and fro-ing that we had got it right.
Got home from work last night and there was a currys slip on the mat saying "we tried to deliver your goods but you weren't home, please call us to rearrange delivery"
On phoning them this morning there was a series of confusions. They said that we had agreed the 31st (we hadn't) that the item was out of stock (well what the heck were they delivering yesterday then?) that the other item was discontinued..... After 20 minutes my OH told them he wasn't happy, that he wanted the manager to call him back within the hour and that he wanted a refund if they couldn't deliver it today as they have totally wasted his time.
Two hours later he had to chase him up. Apparently the Manager doesn't want to speak with him and they "don't know when they can deliver it". He asked for a refund, the response "well you can have one but you'll have to come into the store to arrange it"
Unbelievable. The thing is that now its a matter of principle. I refuse to hand over cash to a company who doesn't know what they are doing and have the customer service skills of a wet lettuce when things go wrong.
Rant over - are there any companies selling white goods who anyone can recommend for deliveries? All we want is for it to turn up on the day they say it will!

My Dad bought a washing machine and a cooker from Currys last month instore.
They checked stock instore, asked him what date would be convinient and on the print out receipt there was a number to call the day before delivery to confirm which time slot the goods would be delivered in.
Didn't you have a print out information sheet as your receipt?
Surely all Currys store have the same procedures?Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -
I ordered a new cooker through Currys on bank holiday weekend, too good a deal to miss. It was a Tricity Bendix stainless steel cooker which had £70 off. It was down to £329. I was therefore very dissapointed to find on Tuesday that they had cancelled my order as they couldn't get the stock, but in my annoyance went back on their site to find a different cooker, only to find that they had put the price up of the cooker I ordered to £449, but it was in stock. I wondered if anyone else had this problem over the weekend with orders, as I am thinking of taking the matter further & would like other peoples experiences0

"In association with Which" ???!!!
Which pride themselves on being independent and unbiased. Their website says
Welcome to Which?
No advertising, no bias, no hidden agenda. Just expert advice from an independent source.
Either Which? have abandoned their principles or Hughes Electrical are using the Which? name without permission.0 -
Don't shoot the messenger!
I found Hughes as a supplier via Which when I last subscribed to them in 2004.
In the Feb 2004 edition under Shopping options:
Quote " Which members can make big savings on electrical appliances.... -thanks to our specially negotiated deals.
Electrical Hughes Direct and Unbeatable (gone bust now I think)
Energy https://www.buy.co.uk/which
Cars
oneswoop.com
Regarding Hughes itdoesn't seem to matter if you are no longer a Which subscriber, just a case of going to the site.via the Which option.
Another advantage is that you can find out what the current Which best buys are for electricals without a trek to the library! That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
I find that using local electrical shops are the best. We bought a washing machine, tumble drier and cooker. The prices were comparable with the high street stores and delivery was free - and at a time and date to suit us.0

Sorry, I wan't having a go at you penrhyn. I was just rather surprised that Which? were doing deals with companies.
Good tip on finding out the best buys without going to ther library. I wonder if anyone apart from libraries subscribes any more?0
