Hi

On comparison sites EON are coming up as my best saving to fix, but the unit prices seem higher then others which are showing an overall lower saving. I am confused, if I am going to save more with EON how is this. Obviously I would like to go ahead if it is going to save me money.

Many thanks.

Just to add I am looking at FixOnline v8

There are discounts totalling 18 to 25% (depends on region) to take off the base unit prices.

    Hi jembeth

As Kim says, I suspect this is because of the discounts we give on our various tariffs.

The unit prices will be shown so you can compare the actual cost of the energy. These may well be higher than others.

However, you will need to apply the discounts to see the amount you will be paying on the particular tariff you are interested in.

Give me a shout if you are still confused. Would be happy to help. :)

Hi Malc, thanks for the reply, I should have said I did take the discount into account (it was 25.4%) and it is still higher, I am comparing against Atlantic Electric & Gas - Online Fixed Price September 2011 , if that is any help. Maybe my maths isn't up to scratch.

The only thing I can think is that EON drops gas price after 1st 2680kw whereas Atlantic it is not until 4572kw.

    Hope I am talking sense.

    Hi jembeth

To be honest, not sure without seeing your full details. It's normally the discount that makes the difference.

Please forgive me if I'm asking the obvious.

I'm assuming you have taken VAT into consideration?

Also, are you inputting your usage in kWh into the comparison sites or using a monthly spend? Always best to put the actual usage in.

The threshold for tier one gas on Fixonline 8 is 2680 kWh. Depending on the amounts involved, this could be a factor.

It may help put your mind at rest if you do a manual calculation based on your usage. This should show which supplier is best for you.

Sorry this is all a bit vague jembeth; or if I'm asking the obvious. Again, let me know if I can help further.

Thank you very much, you have been really helpful, I did the consumption for the year and you are still coming up as the best saving so I think I have my answer.

    Thanks again.

E.ON are taking out big newspaper adverts saying that they want more customers but would like them to use less energy. Yesterday someone claiming to be from E.ON made an unsolicited phone call to my wife and said they were ringing because she had entered a competition. She hadn't and we're registered with the TPS. This was explained - call rapidly terminated. Is this how they will be getting 'more customers'? Incoming number was 08451 110272. I'm not spending however much per minute ringing it back to check if it actually was E.ON but E.ON Rep might be interested if someone else is taking their name in vain!

If you have one of the typical BT residential calling plans, it won't cost you a penny to call this number today (or any day/time that you have free inclusive calls)

Unfortunately, the number may not relate to who called you. It's sadly almost as easy to spoof a CLI as it is to spoof a senders email address.

    Thanks for that datostar.

I don't recognise the number myself but will pass it on to the relevant people.

Thanks. I'm not making a big thing out of it, but I'm sure your company won't want to end up like Sky TV with half a dozen or so firms ringing people up and pretending to be Sky to sell maintenance contracts.
