Tax Credits - Do I qualify

Hi,

My wife has recently given birth so we are looking to claim tax credits.

I went to the HMRC website and filled out the "Do I qualify?" questions. The only problem is they ask for my wifes salary between April 09 to april 10. This is fine but she wasn't on maternity pay then and her salary was more. Now she is on maternity pay which is something like £130 a week, so the final calculation isn't based on what she is bringing home now.

Do the HMRC not take this into account?

Thanks

Mike

The current award is always based on last tax years earnings.

Your joking! I trust they will back date what they owe us the following year.

We are also in the same situation. The website I used, can't remember which one, asked if your income would be different this year which then told us we qualify.

So I called HMRC for the form which also only takes last years figures but I was told when you get the letter to reject your claim you then have to call them to give them your new info. Hopefully this will work!

When you apply for an award it's based on last years income meaning next year you will have a higher award yes, if you still qualify under the new rules.

They wont backdate anything.Your award however will increase.

On the form you can give an estimated figure of FY10-11.

if your estimated income is significantly lower than last years income then they will use your estimated income for the current year so i believe. Ring them and discuss.
