Annoying P.O. Credit card

in Credit cards
I've just had to withdraw my application for a P.O. credit card because I have an online bank account with A&L. The p.o. needs a bank statement from me for legitimate reasons, but A&L will charge me £5 to get a paper statement. The p.o. are not prepared to reimburse me for this and say they have no other way around it. In addition to this it will add days and days onto my application time when I was cutting it fine as it was.
Are other credit card companies going to give me the same problem? I've already had a Virgin card I'm just finishing with my M&S card. This is the first time I've applied for a card since my new account with A&L and I'm wondering if I just need to bite the bullet and send off for the statement now. Any help will be appreciated!
I have around £1400 left on the card if that is relevant...

It was one of the main reasons I left smile (apart from crap customer services). I could not use my statements to prove anything as they were all online based. Personally I'd say you are going to have to get the statement from them.
It may also be worth trying to get the application restarted with the PO as it may have already "hit" your credit ref. files and doing another application may cause issues for you if your ref file isnt already tip-top.Save a life. Learn emergency first aid.

Contact your local college or first aid provider to enquire about free courses in your area.

Did it have to be a bank statement? I cannot remember what I sent them when I applied for the PO card but can you not send a utility bill or something?
This is something the industry is going to seriously take a look at. Give it 5 or 10 years and it will be the norm to get your statements by email/internet. Look at BT and it paperless system they keep trying to get customers to sign up to. I'm with A&L as well which don't send out printed statements and also with Lloyds which has an option to go paperless0 -
Also its not like just because its produced on a bit of paper makes it legit. Saw a programme (may have been Panama) a few months ago about how you get get pretty damn good impersonations of any utility bills over the internet0

I haven't got the docs to hand but I beleive that "bank statements" was only one of the items on the list...........
Pick something else. In the last week I have had to send off id for 3 seperate apps, have always managed to pick something different from the list.

I have sent Smile info before using print out of one of their online statments. Was accepted no problem.

The P.O. would accept a bank statement, credit union statement or building society statement for that section. I sent off proof of address from other statements I get but can't. They've also had proof of my income - this is really frustrating!
Like a previous poster said, this is something that will have to be addressed, as so many companies are moving this way to save resources/money/the world.Am not witty enough to put something cool and informative here:o

I had to send two things. Looking at the list it appeared to be proof of ID and proof of address. Presume the bank statement is proof of address. I used council tax bill - wasn' there something else you could send?0

Hi Everyone!
Have you checked your electoral status recently? This is particularly important if you've moved house in the last three years.

Very true - a mate at work got refused for a application and it turned out that because he had moved house a couple of years previously but not updated the electoral register meant he was refused. All sorted now though0 -

This happened to a friend of mine too.
There are no short-cuts and no guarantees. Lenders assess us differently. That said, everyone's score improves no end, once they're on the electoral roll.
What's more, being on the electoral register obviates the need to produce ID documents every time you apply for credit.
I have signed up with four new credit cards in the last year, Marks & Spencer, Mint, Bank of Scotland's charity card and the Post Office card. None has asked me for ID. If you're eligible and haven't registered yet, it's well worth doing IMO. After all, it doesn't cost a penny.People who don't know their rights, don't actually have those rights.0
